The Resource Politics and Environmental Change Research Cluster at the Institute of Development Studies (IDS) is recruiting a Post-Doctoral Researcher (PDR) as part of a new transdisciplinary project funded by the UK National Environment Research Council (NERC), 'Resilient and Equitable Nature-based Pathways in Southern African Rangelands' (REPAiR). IDS is an independent research and teaching organisation based at the University of Sussex in Brighton, UK.

The successful candidate will work under the direction of Principal Investigator Dr. Amber Huff, and will undertake desk- and field-based research and assist in project coordination. They will work closely with UK-based and South African collaborators and partners, and will contribute to project activities such as research, publishing and communications, stakeholder engagement and knowledge exchange across three work streams and the social science, natural / environmental science and arts and humanities components of the project.

Applicants should have a PhD in the social sciences with a geographic focus in Southern Africa, along with good and up-to-date knowledge of relevant debates in political ecology, human geography, and resource politics, and familiarity with international environmental policy debates around ecosystem-based approaches and Nature-based Solutions (NbS). Knowledge of regional climate and environmental justice issues is important. Knowledge or experience in rangeland systems is desirable. The successful candidate will have excellent analytical, writing and communication skills, a growing record of publications and will be able to work independently as well as to be a collegial team member. English language fluency and a willingness to travel overseas and undertake fieldwork are essential essential to this role.
